What types of projects will I work on?
New associates and laterals work directly with our partners and technical specialists, assisting clients in patent prosecution for ground-breaking drug discoveries, innovative clean technologies, novel software development, and other projects.
Typical projects include:
- Working with partners, associates, technical specialists, and clients to develop IP portfolio strategy; learning how to evaluate the business, legal and technical components of an IP portfolio.
- Working directly with inventors, scientists, and engineers to evaluate the patentability of their inventions; digging into the technology, learning what is new or different about it and how it differentiates from the conventional techniques.
- Assisting with IP due diligence projects related to financing, mergers and acquisitions; working with start-ups, Fortune 500 companies and venture capital groups on multi-million dollar deals.
- Preparing and prosecuting patent applications; writing and filing the applications, meeting with USPTO examiners to explain the technology and how it differs from the existing technology; and working with clients to prepare response strategies.
- Investigating the patent landscape; researching freedom to operate and adverse positions; and working with clients to develop their IP strategy based on that research.
- Providing technical support in patent litigation.
