Mr. Curran assists clients with patent prosecution, litigation, and trademark registrations, with an emphasis on the preparation and prosecution of software and other computer-related patent applications. His practice includes the fields of computer-aided design, computer-aided modeling, model simulation, information security and storage, network storage, distributed computing, optical networking, cellular technologies, micro-electrical mechanical systems, medical devices and robotics. John’s practice additionally includes the fields of alternative and renewable energy technologies.

Notable Experience

  • Global practice includes acquisition of patents in Russia, India, China, The Republic of Korea, Australia, Mexico, and Great Britain.
  • Obtaining an Australian patent for a private client and subsequently negotiating a license for the patent to an Australian telecommunications carrier.
  • Successfully obtaining the underlying IP for a software company specializing in linking knowledge bases operated by multiple information providers and subsequently representing the company in the acquisition of its assets by a consortium that provides online computer library linkage.
  • Representing a start-up robotics company in strategic development of its patent portfolio.
  • Assisting a start-up medical device company in preparing and prosecuting U.S. and international patent and trademark applications.

John previously worked as a sole practitioner. Prior to managing his own practice, he worked as a civil litigator.
