Mr. Canning has 20 years of experience assisting technology clients with patent portfolios and patent prosecution matters. Working with leaders in the industry, Kevin has been responsible for helping to develop patent portfolios for Microsoft, Xerox Corporation, Sun Microsystems, Inc., MCI, and The MathWorks, Inc.

Notable Experience

  • Writing and prosecuting numerous software and computer patents asserted in litigations among computer industry leaders.
  • Writing and prosecuting the Microsoft FAT patent. The patent has since been upheld upon reexamination by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Successfully working with The MathWorks, Inc. to modify its flagship software product to design around infringement claims by a large international software company.
  • Assisting MCI avoid a claim of patent infringement on its calling card business.
  • Winning an opposition in the European Patent Office brought by an international medical device developer and manufacturer against our client Atrium Medical Corporation.
